Research shows that including "realia" in your presentations to students helps them attach meaning to a concept and learn more effectively.
Here is a way for you to do this without boxes of stored materials. By using The Oklahoman Archives, provided FREE to you by Devon Energy, you will enter over 100 years of stored historical data via The Oklahoman newspaper.
You may search this information for a specific topic of study or for a specific time frame. You will see the newspaper as it was printed on that day in history. The opportunites for incorporating this into your daily lessons are endless.
Here are a few lesson plans to get you started:
* Famous Oklahomans
* Statehood Day in Oklahoma
* The Day of Your Birth
The Oklahoma History Center has also provided materials from two of their "Educational Trunks".
