Activities in the newspaper to get your students thinking about their rights. Avail. September 17

"We the People"... These three tiny words that make people stand at attention. The Constitution is the contract between the United States government and its people that assures them of their rights as citizens. It is the basis through which laws are made, judgment is given and a society continues to develop.

President George W. Bush signed a bill on December 8, 2004 (Public Law 108-447) that designates every September 17th as Constitution Day. The Constitution was signed by 39 of the 55 Founding Fathers on September 17th, 1787. In an effort to raise awareness for the freedoms provided by the Constitution, The Oklahoman is celebrating Constitution Day with a special in-paper feature geared directly toward generating public awareness of the Constitution and our freedoms as American citizens. Also, this program will be promoted for use in the schools. This in-paper feature will run on September 17th.
